FAQ for alt.binaries.pictures.grotesque
______________________________

What is ?
It is a Usenet newsgroup devoted to, but not necessarily limited to, pictures of "the 6 Ds": death, disease, dismemberment, disfigurement, deformity, and decapitation.

What sorts of posts are considered "on topic"?
Pictures of: Auto/train/plane/industrial etc accident victims - extra points for compound fractures; Physical deformity, in all its forms; Grotesque diseases. Blood and pus encouraged, but not required; Atrocities of war; Dead bodies. Mutilation is considered a plus; Autopsies. Bloated intestines add interest but are not required; Tasteless/bizarre/grotesque works of art, modern and medieval;

Well, you get the picture, don't you?

What about tasteless sex acts, like bestiality, shit eating, or piss drinking?
While these acts are admittedly grotesque and tasteless, there are several other newsgroups devoted to these subjects, and it is the consensus of the approximately 15 to 20 co-creators of this group that these types of pictures are definitely off-topic and unwelcome in the group. These posts would be welcomed in

-alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.tasteless
-alt.binaries.fetish.scat
-alt.binaries.pictures.erotica.bestiality

They would not be welcomed in abpg. Please post to the appropriate newsgroup.

Well, if tasteless sex is off-topic, what about pictures of venereal disease?
The test is whether or not the picture is intended to incite sexual desire. Bestiality and scat are intended to turn some people on. That's fine, but not here. VD, on the other hand, is disease (see? one of the 6 Ds). Very few people get turned on by the sight of a disgustingly diseased crotch, so VD pictures would be on-topic.

What if I post something that I think is on topic, and one of you assholes disagrees with me?
This group is not moderated. However, there is a mailing list consisting of 15-20 tasteless connoisseurs who discussed at great length the creation of this group and what it should stand for, and those on the mailing list reserve the right to discuss, and if deemed suitable, third-party cancel any post that does not fit the guidelines. We are aware that there will be "gray areas" here, so we will be liberal in our interpretations. However, we do not want this group to become a pornography group, as has happened elsewhere.

What if I have something that I want to post, but I'm not sure if it's on topic?
Well, you could ask in the group, or you could go ahead and post it (possibly risking hatred and derision), your choice. Use your best judgment and, when in doubt, refer to the posting guidelines.

If I see spam posted to the group, what can I do about it?
First of all, do not reply to spam in the group. Spammers don't read the groups that they post to and replies only clutter up the group even more. So, our way of dealing with spam these days is to ask that users post with the letters "ABPG" included in the subject line for binary posts and "ABPG-OT" included in the subject line for related, non-binary posts (questions, requests, etc). If you use a newsreader with filtering and kill-file capabilities, you can set it to kill all articles without "ABPG" in the subject line. This way you'll never have to look at spam in abpg again. We recommended that you get a dedicated newsreading application with filtering capabilities: Agent (or FreeAgent-freeware available from www.tucows.com) for Windows or Yet Another NewsWatcher for Macintosh (freeware available from www.macorchard.com) are both excellent news readers. Please keep in mind that, if you post without the "ABPG" tag, many of the regular users will never see your post. If you're more the pro-active type, Llorta maintains a webpage at http://www.constant.com/~hankins/antispam.htm with excellent instructions on how to fight spam.

Notes:
For general information about Usenet and netiquette, please consult the newsgroups news.announce.newusers and news.newusers.questions. Look for the posts titled "Welcome to Usenet" and "What is Usenet?"

Before you post, we suggest lurking for a little while and reading the FAQ to get an idea of what is and is not an appropriate post.

If you're posting binaries for the first time, post them to first, then download them yourself to verify that you have posted them correctly. ABPG is not a test group.

Crossposting is impolite. Please don't crosspost to abpg.

Unlike many binary newsgroups, abpg welcomes conversation and commentary from it's users, however, flame wars and trolls have become a problem lately. Flame wars are often caused by one user somehow insulting another in the group, with the result that arguments ensue and sides are taken. Try not to participate in these discussions as they are off-topic and clutter the group. If you're involved in a flame war, please either take it to email or to IRC (#abpg on dalnet is a good place for this). Trolls are people who post intentionally inflammatory remarks with the express intention of angering users of a newsgroup. They thrive on attention and the only way to get rid of them is to ignore them. If they don't get the attention that they so desperately need, they usually move on quickly. Please don't feed the trolls.

Don't encourage off-topic posting by making wry and witty comments. Instead, try to discourage the poster by pointing out that their posts are off-topic, suggesting that they use another group, and posting a copy of this FAQ.

This group was created as a response to the damage caused to alt.binaries.pictures.tasteless by excessive scat, bestiality, and spam postings. Please don't let that happen to this group.

Related Websites and IRC:

TC (aka The Froon), one of the co-creators of abpg and co-author of this FAQ, maintains The Official ABPG FAQ Website. It can be found at http://www.stl-online.net/thc/abpg. There you will find a brief history of abpg, TC's incredible collection of nearly 700 medical and forensic scans, plus information on the "Traingirl" avi and the ever-popular "Natural Born Losers" series.

Psyconutt maintains another abpg website that includes photos and profiles of some abpg regulars and a growing collection of pics from the newsgroup. He plans to make it the largest archive of grotesque images on the web and, unlike certain other sites, it will remain free. We wish him luck. Psyco's URL is http://207.177.16.18/psyco/index.htm

ColinZeal maintains an abpg website which includes a user profile section and an archive of photos and humorous threads from abpg at http://come.to/abpg. He updates this site on a regular basis, so check it frequently.

You can find many of abpg's regular users chatting at #abpg on dalnet at odd hours of the day and night. If no one is there when you log in, you might want to stay awhile. Someone is sure to turn up.
